Nietzsche provides me with comfort because he both acknowledges that life is inherently fairly meaningless, yet also assigns enormous value to certain things that I can strive to accomplish, thus giving me some relief and some purpose to my living. I find his views refreshing and uplifting rather than crushing or depressing. I read Nietzsche for the same reason others might listen to sad songs...

me: it’s mostly just the last three periods of my day that i simply cannot deal with. mom: i could come up with a reason for them to let you get those three off and do them in the summer. me: they won’t let me do that. mom: they will do whatever the fuck i make them do because you are my daughter and i am your mom. fuck them.

I think that it’s not even really school that’s depressing me, it’s this intense bout of existential angst that has been plaguing me for quite a while now. I would find everyday life so much more tolerable if I was working towards something other than my own death. I’m not scared of dying, it just makes life seem so pointless, and I keep on giving myself little reasons here...
